democracy………..?

Question by -ShA!!!: democracy………..?
there is a great debate over the meaning of democracy. many believe citizens should have greater involvement in government decision-making, and therefore support direct and deliberative democracy. what are “direct” and “delibrative” forms of democracy? Critically assess them.

So i have to write a paper on this topic… Can anyone please help me how to start and what things to talk about?????
Thanks :)

True Democracy can not exist. THe larger the nation, the less capable for that country to institute Democratic policies. When you have a population of 300 million, the voice of one man is lost in the crowd. When I see surveys on various indices on how well the country is run, small nations tend to do better. They are more able to keep in touch with the people, and the people can more easily route out corruption. Small nations are more capable in making a fair system since it’s easier to standardize rule for a small area, where the culture is similar. The problem in the United states, is the culture of new England is vary different from the culture of Texas. That’s why a Republic is better for a nation like THe US. YOu also have to take account of minority rights. Democracy does not take account for this.

The school-book kia

Hickman, 23, was killed in Baghdad by a roadside bomb that ripped through his armored truck Nov. 14 — eight years, seven months and 25 days after the U.S. invasion of Iraq began.

He was the 4,474th member of the U.S. military to die in the war, according to the Pentagon.

And he may have been the last.

With the final U.S. combat troops crossing out of Iraq into Kuwait, those who held Hickman dear are struggling to come to terms with the particular poignancy of his fate. As the unpopular war that claimed his life quietly rumbles to a close, you can hear within his inner circle echoes of John F. Kerry’s famous 1971 congressional testimony on Vietnam:

How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?

“Thank God if David is the last one to die, because that means nobody else will have to go through this,” said Logan Trainum, one of Hickman’s closest friends. “But it’s crazy that he died. No matter your position on this war — if you’re for or against it — I think everybody thinks we shouldn’t have been over there anymore.”

U.S. combat operations in Iraq officially ended months before Hickman’s unit shipped out from Fort Bragg in May. His platoon spent most of its deployment on “presence patrols,” walking through Iraqi neighborhoods to remind insurgents that the U.S. military was still there, said Spec. Zack Zornes, who served in Hickman’s platoon.

Hickman liked the military, Zornes said. “But there were days on end where me and Hickman would be sitting in his room, being like: ‘Why are we even here? What are we doing?’ We were just doing police work. I totally agree with Hickman’s friends and family who are mad. We had no reason to be there anymore.”

Whatever one thinks of the war—I supported the invasion but have long since argued that it was time to pull the plug on the ensuing nation building folly—the death of a soldier after the announcement that we’re ending the fight is particularly tragic. That the war has been going on since Hickman was thirteen years old and that he volunteered for not only the Army but the airborne infantry fully knowing that he might be called to risk his life in Iraq doesn’t diminish that.

The Kia Ray may well be the ugliest EV I have seen in a long time. It’s boxy and square and makes the Prius look good if you ask me. Aside from the questionable looks of the car, it has some interesting features that make it stand out among the EV crowd. The coolest feature is the optional fast charge system that would charge the battery cells in only 25 minutes.

The boxy EV has a range of 84 miles, which will obviously depend on the driving conditions. Without that fast charge option, you will need six hours to charge the battery using 220V. The electric motor is a 50kW unit powering the front wheels. The beast will rocket from 0-62mph in 15.9 seconds.

The EV Ray has 123 lb-ft of torque, which as is common with electric cars is more torque than the 1.0L combustion engine powered flavor offers. Kia plans to build 2,500 of these little EVs. The catch is that they are all slated for government use in Korea so you won’t be able to get one.

The school-book expresses most of the themes that would penetrate KIA Forum have under control Trimmer’s later works, such as her gravity on retaining sexually transmitted hierarchies

If there was ever a reason to be worried about being technologically one-upped by China, this iSeat is it. While our craftsman have only concerned themselves with comfort, their engineers have integrated speakers and an iPhone dock into this recliner.

But that’s not all. Not only have they cracked the armrest matrix—somehow finding a way for both a drink holder and a music dock to co-exist in the same piece of furniture—they’ve also managed to find a place to squeeze Bluetooth hardware in there too, without compromising comfort. Don’t have an iPhone? The chair probably isn’t for you, but the inclusion of an SD slot and USB port allow music to be loaded from other sources as well.

Now I’d fully expect that a recliner as pimped out as this one to come with a price tag in the thousands of dollars. But somehow they’re asking just $400 for it. I have to assume they’re taking a hit on every chair and are making their money back in leather polish sales. That, or it’s just not as awesome as this product shot makes it out to be. How does cathode temperature depend on electrical power dissipation?

Question by Not Eddie Money: How does cathode temperature depend on electrical power dissipation?
How does the temperature of a cathode or filament depend, mathematically, on the voltage and current applied to it?
I realize that this will be substance-dependent, but are there general rules of thumb here?
The Richardson equation describes emission current as a function of T, not voltage/current applied to the cathode.

Best answer:

Answer by anilbakshi
Richardson equation for filament current at different temps

J = A T ^2 exp[ - phi/kT]
Where:

J = + I / A = emission current density, amps/cm^2 of hot emitting surface.
A = a constant for metals.
T = temperature of hot surface, in Kelvin.
phi = work function, measured in electron volts or eV.
k = Bolztmann’s constant

Extensive, this amounts to a corporate interest, logo

WASHINGTON — The chief executives of major companies are frequently blasted for their massive salaries, but new reports show that the heads of the nation’s largest nonprofit interest groups are earning similar paychecks.

The Huffington Post first reported last month that Tom Donohue, the CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, earned $4.7 million in 2010. But according to an analysis published by Politico on Tuesday, Donohue’s salary still lags behind the pay earned by the heads of two other major lobbying groups.

Billy Tauzin, a former Republican congressman from Louisiana, served as the head of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America for the first half of 2010. He topped Politico’s list by earning $11.6 million in that short period, a significant bump over the $4.6 million he earned in the same job in 2009.

Tauzin was followed by American Petroleum Institute CEO Jack Gerard, who made $6.4 million in 2010, coming in just ahead of Donohue. In all, none of the 10 highest earners among nonprofit CEOs made less than one million dollars that year.

While not earning as much as their colleagues who represent industry, many well-known political figures also pulled in sizeable paychecks. Influential conservative Grover Norquist, the head of Americans for Tax Reform, earned a small pay increase to $225,000 in 2010. John Podesta, the former Clinton chief of staff and recently retired head of the Center for American Progress, made $328,500.

Ivan Adler, a headhunter at executive search firm McCormick Group, told Politico that the salaries defy the logic of the current tough economy. “This is a parallel universe to the rest of the country,” he said. “We don’t make anything in Washington; we manufacture nothing but ideas, so a recession here doesn’t affect things as much as it does in the real world.”
